Top Things To Do On St. Lucia

Known as one of the top honeymoon spots, St Lucia is a Caribbean island near St Vincent, Barbados, and Martinique in the Lesser Antilles. Famous for the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires. St Lucia is an island paradise with friendly people, delicious food, and lots of sites to explore!

Here I highlight the top things to do on St Lucia, when to visit and where to stay.

When to Visit St Lucia

St Lucia is warm and tropical, temperatures don’t vary much throughout the year. Average highs range from 83-87 degrees and lows 72-77 degrees. Be ready for the heat and humidity! But there is always the Caribbean Sea to cool down in!

Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30. The season usually peaks in late August through September. During hurricane season you can usually find good travel deals, just be sure to buy insurance on your trip in case of a hurricane.

How to Travel in St Lucia

There are so many things to see, do and explore on St Lucia! I suggest travelers rent a car, 4-wheel drive is best, and get out and explore the island. This is not one of those islands where you should stay in the all-inclusive resort the entire trip. I even suggest travelers stay in different areas of the island in order to really get out there and explore. I myself stayed in a small fishing village on the south of the island and then just outside Soufriere. Don’t be afraid to explore the island, the culture, and the people. St Lucia is a safe place full of warm and welcoming people.

Here are my picks for top things to do while on St Lucia.

  • The pitons. These picturesque mountains make for a beautiful backdrop but the best way to see them is to hike them! I highly suggest hiking Gros Piton. It is a moderate to difficult hike, depending on your conditioning, but the views at the top are worth it! You do need to hire a guide to take you up and down the mountain, this is required. The hike is about 3.2 miles and over 2000 ft of elevation. Hire a Guide.

  • Diamond Falls Botanical Garden. Wander around the beautiful gardens, take a tip in the mineral baths and visit the waterfall. Learn more.
  • Visit a Cocoa plantation. The best is the Boucan or Hotel Chocolate. You can stay at the lovely boutique hotel or visit for cocoa plantation tour and then make your own chocolate bar- more work than you think! They have a delicious open-air restaurant with piton views as well. To learn more visit their website, click on Experiences to learn more about the tours.
  • Boat Tours. There are many things you can do on a boat tour like fishing, sunset cruise, snorkeling, whale, or dolphin watching. I personally love taking in the view from the water.
  • Sulphur Springs. The worlds only drive-through volcano. You can also participate in the mud baths.
  • Margot Bay
  • Rum Tasting
  • Banana Plantaion
  • Tet Pace Nature Trails
  • Splash water park
  • Millet bird sanctuary
  • Antillia Brewing Company.
  • Relax
  • Beaches
    • Sugar Beach. This is one of the most famous beaches. If you drive or visit through the main entrance, which is a hotel, they will charge you $50 but if you take a boat from Soufriere you’ll get a nice little tour and round trip transport to the beach for much less.
    • Reduit Beach
    • Anse Chastanet Beach
    • Vigie Beach
    • La Toc Beach
    • Jalousie Beach
